The UMA Racing Clutch Plate Set for the Yamaha R15 V3/V4/M and the VVA engine family (Assist & Slipper Clutch) is a high-friction performance upgrade designed to eliminate “clutch slip,” especially in engines that have been modified for more power.
Unlike standard OEM plates, these are built with a specialized compound that “bites” harder and resists fading under high temperatures.
Key Features
-
High-Friction Material: The friction plates are made from a heavy-duty cork or paper-based composite (depending on the specific version) that provides a much stronger grip on the steel plates than stock units.
-
Heat Resistance: Designed to operate efficiently at high temperatures. This prevents the “fading” feeling where the clutch lever gets soft or the bike loses drive after aggressive riding or heavy traffic.
-
Consistent Engagement: The plates are precision-cut to ensure uniform thickness, which results in a smoother, more predictable “bite point” when releasing the lever.
-
Durability: The friction material is bonded more securely to the plate core, reducing the “shedding” of material into your engine oil.

Important: R15 V2 vs. R15 V3/V4 Differences
When ordering, you must specify your model because the clutch designs are completely different:
-
R15 V2: Uses a traditional clutch system usually requiring 5 friction plates. Upgrading these is straightforward and significantly improves power delivery to the rear wheel.
-
R15 V3/V4/M: These models feature the Assist & Slipper Clutch. This system uses fewer friction plates (usually 3 plates) but they are specifically shaped to work with the slipper mechanism. Using the wrong plates will disable the slipper function or cause the clutch to lock up.
Why Upgrade to UMA Plates?
-
For Big Bore Kits: If you’ve installed a 62mm or 63mm block, your stock clutch will likely start slipping at high RPMs because it can’t handle the extra torque. The UMA plates provide the necessary “hold.”
-
Better Launches: For track use or spirited riding, these plates allow for more aggressive launches without the clutch “glazing” (becoming smooth and useless).
Maintenance Pro-Tip: “The Soak”
Before installing any new clutch plates, you must soak them in fresh engine oil for at least 30 to 60 minutes (ideally 24 hours). Installing them “dry” will cause the friction material to burn the very first time you start the bike, ruining the set instantly.

FAQs
Will this stop clutch slipping?
If worn clutch plates are the cause, yes this can restore proper grip.
Is it good for modified bikes?
Yes, especially when paired with stronger clutch springs.
Do I need soaking before install?
Yes, clutch friction plates should usually be soaked in engine oil before installation.
