RCB R1 Brake Pads (S2-D2 Gold Series) are a premium, ultra-high-performance friction upgrade engineered specifically to fit RCB’s flagship R1 (and R55) 4-Piston Racing Calipers.
Representing the pinnacle of RCB’s braking developments, the S2-D2 Gold Series moves past traditional organic compounds. It introduces an advanced, racing-derived ceramic-copper hybrid matrix designed to handle the extreme thermal loads generated by aggressive track riding and high-power street setups.
Key Features
-
S2-D2 Ceramic-Copper Composite Matrix: Formulated from a synergistic, high-density blend of specialized Kevlar® fibers, advanced ceramic binders, and pure red copper powder. This hybrid matrix provides aggressive initial bite and exceptional linear modulation at the lever.
-
Extreme Heat Tolerance (Up to 350°C): Engineered to maintain a stable coefficient of friction under high thermal stress. When braking repeatedly from high speeds, these pads resist heat fade up to 350°C, ensuring your braking pressure remains rock-solid and predictable.
-
Innovative Air & Water Evaporation Grooves: The friction face features a precision-machined groove architecture. These channels actively create a low-pressure escape path to expel trapped gases, disperse water film instantly in wet weather, and shed abrasive brake dust.
-
Low Rotor Abrasion Profile: Despite its high-metallic copper content, the ceramic binding compound is designed to be gentle on high-tensile stainless steel brake rotors. It creates a smooth, microscopic transfer layer across the disc rather than scoring it.
-
Anti-Corrosive Gold Backing Plate: The high-strength steel backing plate is treated with a signature metallic gold anti-corrosion protective finish, ensuring the pads slide freely within the caliper shims without seizing or rusting.

Step-by-Step Installation Guidelines
Because 4-piston calipers apply force across four independent pistons simultaneously, correct alignment during installation is critical to prevent uneven pad wear or a spongy lever.
Remove the caliper retaining pins and slide the old pads out. Spray the interior walls and all four exposed piston walls thoroughly with a dedicated non-chlorinated brake cleaner. Use a soft nylon toothbrush to gently scrub away hardened road grime and old copper grease residue.
Using a specialized 4-piston pad spreader tool or two flat, non-marring levers, slowly compress all four pistons back into their bores simultaneously. Ensure they sit completely flush. Keep an eye on your master cylinder reservoir to ensure returning brake fluid doesn’t overflow.
Wipe down the stainless steel pad retention pins and anti-rattle spring clips. Apply a microscopic layer of high-temperature ceramic brake grease along the smooth shaft of the pins where the pad backing tabs slide. Crucial: Keep all grease completely clear of the new S2-D2 friction faces.
Slide the new gold pads in, re-install the clips/pins, and torque the caliper mounting bolts to factory specifications. Pump the brake lever until it is firm. Take the bike to a safe, controlled road. Accelerate to 60 km/h and apply steady brake pressure to slow down to 10 km/h without locking up. Repeat this smooth deceleration cycle 10 to 15 times to heat-cycle the pads and uniformly transfer the ceramic-copper matrix onto the rotor face.
Fitment Warning: These S2-D2 Gold pads are strictly dimensioned for aftermarket RCB R1 / R55 4-Piston Caliper housings. They will not drop into standard single or dual-piston factory calipers (like standard Nissin or ByBre setups). Always verify your caliper model before attempting installation.
